Issues in Aging:
Successful supports for people with ID/DD who are aging

This two-part webinar is designed to introduce the participant to what can be expected as someone gets older, including health issues and concerns; changes in support needs; and using person-centered skills and practices to address end of life care.  Topics covered will include common health issues and diagnoses - and the supports needed for those diagnoses.  Building supports that remain true to person-centered values will also be covered.  The speaker will also provide a brief introduction to planning for future healthcare decisions and care at end of life.

About the presenter: Dr. Legh Ann Kingsbury
These sessions will be presented by Leigh Ann Kingsbury, Gerontologist and author of People Planning Ahead: A Guide to Community Healthcare and End of Life Wishes has worked with people who need services and supports, including people with developmental disabilities, psychiatric disabilities and seniors for more than 30 years.

She has worked at all levels of organizations including direct care, case management and senior and executive leadership. She has helped more than 100 people move from institutional settings to their home communities including many people with labels of “challenging behavior”; and she is the former director of the North Carolina Person-Centered Planning Initiative. Leigh Ann has particular interest in the growth of person centered practices and policy in long term care and supports. As an Associate Consultant with Support Development Associates (SDA) she was recently the lead consultant on a CMS and State funded person-centered systems-change project for seniors and people with physical and sensory disabilities receiving long term supports in North Carolina. Leigh Ann is one of a small group of people working on using person-centered practices for planning health care decisions, advance directives and care at end of life.
